OVERVIEW

Diagnostic Advances in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology is organized by UC San Diego School of Medicine Continuing Medical Education and will be held from Apr 26 - 27, 2019 at Hilton San Diego Bayfront, San Diego, California, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is designed for practicing pathologists across community and academic centers, as well as pathology residents and fellows. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 14.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
This two-day interactive course will address key updates in 4 topics: dermatopathology, gynecologic gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary and genitourinary pathology. A stepwise approach to pathology diagnosis in these subspecialty topic areas in surgical pathology and cytopathology will be addressed. The course will also provide guidance in the use and interpretation of molecular and immunohistochemical testing in difficult diagnostic scenarios.

Specific topics that will be covered include: Melanocytic and inflammatory skin lesions, diagnostic issues, mimics and pitfalls in common skin neoplasms, prostate cancer classification and grading, renal neoplasms, handling background medical kidney in nephrectomies for renal cancer, liver masses (primary and metastatic), gallbladder and biliary dysplasia and neoplasia, cytology of solid and cystic pancreatic lesions, cytology of salivary gland, subtyping of endometrial carcinomas and avoiding pitfalls.

Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Discuss the most recent changes in prostate cancer pathology classification and diagnosis
• Apply critical diagnostic criteria to appropriately classify kidney cancer subtypes and variants
• Recall diagnostic criteria essential to the diagnosis of inflammatory skin lesions
• Apply critical diagnostic criteria to appropriately classify dermatologic melanocytic lesions
• Apply a methodological approach to the diagnosis of neoplastic liver biopsies
• Use morphologic criteria to identify and classify gallbladder and biliary neoplasia
• Apply a methodological approach to thyroid cytology
• Use updated criteria for diagnosis of salivary gland lesions in cytologic samples
• Recognize classic patterns and pitfalls of endometrial carcinoma in pathology samples
• Use a differential diagnosis approach to correctly diagnose pancreatic lesions on cytology specimen
• Determine and properly utilize Milan criteria in the diagnosis of salivary gland cytology
• Integrate appropriate immunohistochemical analysis to gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic and dermatologic specimens
