Course Description :
Technology for general surgery is constantly evolving. This course will provide an interactive and comprehensive experience focusing on management and treatment options from a general surgical perspective. The goal of the Cleveland Clinic presents Updates in General Surgery is to provide an atmosphere to foster collaboration, innovation and sharing a cost-effective diagnostic approach for patients with complex general surgery cases involving hernia, breast disease and HPB, as well as bariatric, trauma, colorectal and foregut surgery. We will cover what is new in enhanced recovery protocols and offer interactive sessions consisting of cases and questions and answers. American Board of Surgery (ABS) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) self-assessment credits will be offered. Great refresher course for ABSITE training exam.
Educational Objectives :
After completing this educational activity, the participant will be able to do the following:
• Describe the management of common general surgery emergency cases
• Describe the indications and contraindications for managing various cases of ventral and inguinal hernia repairs.
• Discuss evidence-based and cost-effective diagnostic approach for patients with common benign and malignant colorectal cases.
• Rationalize patient management and treatment options for patients with benign and malignant breast disease
• Identify treatment options for patients with paraesophageal hernias, and biliary and pancreatic diseases
• Review and provide update on current enhanced recovery protocols.
