2019 Symposium Update in Allergy and Immunology is organized by USF Health's Office of Continuing Professional Development and will be held from Jan 18 -  19, 2019 at USF Health, Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), Tampa, Florida, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is designed to meet the educational needs of Internal Medicine physicians, (ABIM MOC Points available) and Pediatric physicians (ABP MOC Part 2 credit available), as well as Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Allergy/Immunology physician specialists. The target audience also includes Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Nurses, Registered Nurses, Residents, Medical Students and any other healthcare practitioners who care for patients with allergic and immunologic disorders. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 12.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Description:
The conference will focus on the latest breakthroughs and recommendations to evaluate and manage asthma, its pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment; food allergy, its diagnosis and treatment; and current and future treatments of primary immunodeficiency diseases. Other subjects include comorbid conditions of asthma; mechanisms, efficacy, substitution, and proper use of asthma inhalers; nasal polyps; common allergic and nonallergic dermatologic problems and a gastroenterologist’s versus an allergist/immunologist’s perspective of eosinophilic esophagitis. A rhinoscopy breakout skills session is available the first morning for 20 physicians.

Concurrent Sessions New this year – the full conference will begin for all learners on the morning of the first day with two concurrent sessions. One session will be the rhinoscopy skills workshop which is limited to 20 physicians (Preregistration is required for the rhinoscopy workshop). The other concurrent session, on Severe Asthma and its Comorbid Conditions, will be for all other conference attendees. The Asthma session is included in the registration as part of the full activity.

Learning Objectives:
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
• Perform a diagnostic examination of the upper airway with a flexible rhinoscope (for those participating in the Rhinoscopy workshop only)
• Recognize and treat acute and severe asthma
• List the co-morbid conditions associated with asthma
• Recognize the evolution of asthma during a lifetime and the infectious diseases, which exacerbate or are associated with asthma
• Explain how practice-based learning will enhance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of acute asthma and co-morbid conditions of asthma.
• Describe spirometry; peak flow and how to perform and interpret results
• Identify the main dermatologic problems in any medical practice
• Identify the difference between food intolerance versus allergy
• Summarize eosinophilic esophagitis, its diagnosis and treatment
