2019 Indiana Urologic Association (IUA) Annual Meeting is organized by Indiana Urologic Association, Inc. (IUA) and will be held on Feb 23, 2019 at JW Marriott Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Indiana, United States of America. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 5.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

We have also seen a similar swing in the treatment of SUI. For many years the midurethral sling was the standard for most physicians. Again with the FDA warnings on vaginal mesh, though the slings have been excluded, patients and physicians have increasing concerns and are seeking other options for the management of SUI.

Metabolic management and prevention of kidney stones is a key component in the treatment of nephrolithiasis set forth by the American Urologic Society. The treatment of kidney stones does not terminate with the surgical destruction and/or removal of a patient’s stones. Symptomatic nephrolithiasis is considered one of the most painful conditions a patient can experience. Early implementation of stone prevention techniques and medical therapy is often successful because of bolstered compliance due to patient motivation. It remains crucial that providers capitalize on this motivation and implement dietary changes and medical therapy to prevent further stone events. The strains of health care costs will continue to increase and attempts to reduce the expense associated with surgical management of nephrolithiasis by implementing prevention techniques are exceedingly valuable. Implementing basic stone prevention education into the clinic setting and providing more comprehensive metabolic evaluations to those who require or seek additional care. Then by identifying both the stable and refractory or non-compliant patient, triage of patients back to a primary care setting or referring them to a specialized clinic can occur expeditiously and further reduce the time burden, redundancy and cost to the health care system.

National studies indicate that at least 50% of US physicians are experiencing professional burnout. Burnout is a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced effectiveness. Many studies place urologists near the top when ranked by specialty. This has been evidenced by recent surveys by the AUA. Burnout contributes to broken relationships, substance abuse, suicide and influences quality of care, patient satisfaction, and physician longevity in practice. It is imperative that Urologists recognize the problem, know how to prevent it in their own practice and advocate for change our practices and hospital systems.

At the Conclusion of the Iua 2019 Annual Meeting, Attendees Will Be Able to:
• Discuss Emerging Novel Targets in Drug Development That Will Be Helpful in Providing State-of-the-art Options to Men With Metastatic Prostate Cancer.
• Evaluate Complex Bladder Cancer Cases With an Emphasis on Current Treatment Guidelines and Emerging Therapies.
• Explain the Health Policy Issues Facing Urologists in Indiana, the North Central Section Region and Nationwide.
• Describe the Different Native Tissue Repairs for the Management of Sui, Including Retropubic Urethropexy and Fascial Sling.
• Review Anatomy, Mechanism of Action, Indication, Risks, Benefits, Outcomes and Limitations of Each Procedure of Native Tissue Repairs for Sui.
• Review Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Compartment Site Defects.
• Review the Native Tissue Repair Options for Primarily the Anterior and Apical Compartments, Including Anterior Colporrhaphy, Anterior Vaginal Wall Suspension, Sacralcolpopexy, Uterosacral Ligament Suspension, Sacrospinous Ligament Fixation.
• Discuss the Increasing Problem of Physician and Provider Burnout, Its Ramifications, and How It Can Be Addressed and Prevented in the Current Healthcare Environment.
• Discuss the Role and Need for Subspecialty Residency Training for Advanced Practice Providers.
• Describe the Components of the Screening Evaluation on a Patient Newly Diagnosed With Nephrolithiasis.
• Identify the Appropriate Patients Who Warrant Additional Metabolic Testing.
• Implement the Team Approach and Utilization of Ancillary Staff, Aaps, and Dieticians to Help Streamline a Practice That Aims to Help Prevent Kidney Stones in the Afflicted.
• Identify the Clinical Metrics Involved in a Metabolic Evaluation and How to Utilize the Data to Diagnosis Common Conditions Associated With Stone Disease.
• Learn About the Available Resources That Are Available to Complete a Metabolic Evaluation.
• Integrate Appropriate Follow Up and Surveillance of Recurrent Stone Formers. Establish Appropriate End Points Where Stone Prevention Has Been Achieved and Routine Follow Up Can Be Transferred.
