Course Overview:
The Scripps Cardiogenic Shock and Resuscitation Symposium is a comprehensive course designed for those who care for patients with cardiogenic shock including cardiologists (interventional and advanced heart failure specialists), cardiothoracic surgeons, critical care and emergency department physicians, and advanced practice clinicians. The multidisciplinary faculty will discuss various treatment options for cardiogenic shock as well as the benefits of developing a dedicated shock care team. Workshops will offer participants a chance to get hands-on experience with mechanical circulatory support devices (short-term and long-term durable support) as well as bedside ultrasound. The goal of this symposium is to share knowledge and best practices among providers to help improve outcomes in this high mortality disorder.

Educational Objectives:
After attending this live activity, participants should be able to:
• Describe the benefits of implementing a Shock Team.
• Interpret the role of hemodynamics in acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock.
• Discuss current outcomes and ways to increase awareness of cardiogenic shock.
• Assess the utility of extracorporeal support in patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Determine when to consider mechanical circulatory support in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
• Compare various temporary mechanical circulatory support devices and their associated risks and benefits.
• Develop post-cardiotomy cardiogenic shock management strategies.
• Illustrate the role of percutaneous mitral valve therapies in cardiogenic shock.
• Summarize coronary interventions in patients with cardiogenic shock.
• Evaluate current outcomes using LVAD therapy.
• Demonstrate the use of handheld ultrasound in the hypotensive patient.
• Employ new collaborative care team strategies to increase early recognition of cardiogenic shock and improve patient outcomes.
