Overview:
The Coastal Dermatology Symposium, presented annually since 2005, is designed to provide high-quality continuing medical education featuring latest updates in medical dermatology and the diagnosis and treatment of various dermatological conditions. The educational content is of interest to practicing dermatologists, dermatology residents, rheumatologists, allergists and family practice physicians, as well as nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants in those areas.

For the 15th Annual Coastal Dermatology Symposium, an internationally-known faculty and key thought leaders will present in-depth education and stimulate audience discussion on topics including: Acne, Rosacea, Contact Dermatitis, Atopic Dermatitis, Pediatric Dermatology, Skin Cancer, Psoriasis, Sunscreens, Eczema, and Dermoscopy.

Target Audience:
Dermatologists, dermatology residents, internists, family practitioners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who treat diseases of the skin.

Accreditation:
The University of Cincinnati designates this live activity for a maximum of 14.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Learning Objectives:
After completing this live activity, participants should be better able to:
• Design evidence-based, guideline-driven treatment strategies for patients with atopic dermatitis based on disease severity with the goal of clear or almost clear skin.
• Incorporate strategies for use of use of new therapies aimed at blocking the inflammatory mediators of atopic dermatitis.
• Assess and manage eczematous dermatitis in the context of primary immunodeficiencies in children and adults.
• Describe the pathophysiology of psoriasis and its associated comorbidities.
• Diagnose and treat patients with psoriasis appropriately, based on current clinical guidelines.
• Design treatment strategies that incorporate of biologic therapies in the management of appropriately selected patients with psoriasis.
• Increase routine screening for psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis
• Develop strategies to increase screening for and management of comorbidities of psoriasis, including cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders.
• Identify key patient characteristics to individualize treatment selection in patients with psoriasis.
• Design a comprehensive treatment plan for acne patients based on clinical guidelines, incorporating pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic strategies.
• Discuss the clinical relevance of the most recent research on the etiologies and therapy of acne vulgaris.
• Design self-education and patient education programs as part of the treatment plan for rosacea treatment.
• Discuss appropriate treatment strategies for rosacea, based on individual signs and symptoms as well as knowledge of the indications, efficacy, and risks of available and emerging rosacea therapies.
• Describe evidence-based strategies for the diagnosis and pharmacologic management of hyperhidrosis.
• Differentiate seborrheic keratosis from other skin lesions, particularly melanoma.
• Match patients with the most appropriate interventions for effective and cosmetically acceptable treatment of SK lesions.
• Identify risk factors for actinic keratosis.
• Design individualized treatment strategies for patients with actinic keratosis to reduce risk of squamous cell carcinoma.
• Identify medication-induced auto-immunities, including autoimmune vasculitis syndromes, connective tissue diseases, and blistering diseases.
• Develop screening strategies to identify comorbid conditions in pediatric patients with dermatologic issues.
• Design psychologic and medical treatment strategies appropriate for pediatric patients with common dermatologic conditions.
• Discuss photoprotection with patients, including pediatric patients and their caregivers.
• Describe the algorithm for the diagnosis of photodermatoses.
• Recognize clinical presentations of rheumatic skin disease, including conditions that mimic these diseases.
• Identify potential side effects of medications used to treat rheumatic skin disease.
