OVERVIEW

UCSF CME Osteoporosis: New Insights in Research, Diagnosis, and Clinical Care is organized by The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Continuing Medical Education and will be held from Jul 12 - 13, 2018 at Marines Memorial Club & Hotel, San Francisco, California, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is physicians and other professionals in health research or clinical care who would find the additional scientific background in the disease helpful, including those specifically involved in osteoporosis such as clinical trial managers, statisticians, physical therapists, and radiologic technologists. This year the conference will place more focus on the latest clinical updates on diagnosis and treatments. No prior clinical or scientific training in osteoporosis is required. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 12.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

This 2-day course features an expert faculty that will discuss the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. Specific topics will include the cell biology of osteoporosis, bone biomechanics, endocrine and nutrition aspects of osteoporosis, and advances in skeletal imaging, such as CT and MRI scanning. The course will also critically review current treatment options and preview new treatments under study. There will be an emphasis on recent developments and current controversies in the etiology, diagnosis, and management of osteoporosis.

Conference Objectives are :
An attendee completing this course will be able to:
• Use bone mineral density with FRAX calculator to diagnose osteoporosis and predict fracture risk according to national treatment guidelines;
• Provide appropriate non-pharmacological counseling and therapy for osteoporosis prevention and treatment;
• Provide appropriate pharmacological treatment for osteoporosis, including the use of new therapies;
• Evaluate the benefits and risks of continuing long-term antiresorptive osteoporosis therapy and determine optimal treatment duration;
• Diagnose and treat osteoporosis secondary to medication use, including glucocorticoid use.
