Neurology Update and Stroke Intensive Course is organized by University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine Division of Continuing Medical Education and will be held during Jan 18 - 20, 2018 at InterContinental Miami, Miami, Florida, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is neurologists and stroke specialists as well as neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, neuro-oncologists, internists, fellows, residents, nurses and allied healthcare professionals specializing in neurology and stroke. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 22.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Conference Description :
The course will provide clinicians with the most recent developments in the diagnosis and management of neurologic disorders, including stroke. It will cover the latest advances in the different fields of neurology and neuroscience including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, neuromuscular diseases, headache, PTSD and Alzheimer’s disease, all of which are critical in solving clinical problems, diagnosing and treating patients and improving the quality of patient care, all of which are critical in solving clinical problems, diagnosing and treating patients and improving the quality of patient care.
In addition, a dedicated stroke seminar will be presented on Saturday, designed as a stand-alone 8-hour CME activity. For those centers planning to seek stroke center status or already designated as a stroke center, this course will provide stroke teams with the most up-to-date evidence in the field of stroke diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problems in movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and stroke will be presented including an exchange of information between faculty and attendees with case presentations, dedicated discussion and questions and answers sessions after each presentation as well as panel discussions.
Conference Objectives are :
Upon completion of the course the participants will be able to:
• Recognize common errors in the use of antiepileptic drugs in the treatment of seizure disorders
• Evaluate the latest data on teratogenic adverse events of antiepileptic drugs
• Use psychotropic drugs in patients with epilepsy who suffer from comorbid mood and anxiety disorders
• Recognize how antiepileptic drugs interfere with the treatment of common neurologic comorbidities in patients with epilepsy
• Understand the relationship between cerebral vascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease and the impact of cognitive and functional reserve and the declining incidence but increasing prevalence of dementia
• Understand the relationship between amyloid beta protein and phosphorylated tau protein, the progression of tau pathology in the brain and the selective vulnerability to Alzheimer pathology in brain regions
• Provide new information regarding the utility of biomarkers and staging of Alzheimer’s disease and the efficacy of new treatments
• Evaluate the mechanism of injury in the central nervous system when relapse vs. progression of MS occurs and discuss the importance of the participation of the immune system in one but not the other
• Review the strategies that may reduce the risk of progression of MS when started at the inception of the disease than when progression has set in
• Discuss how to personalize MS immunomodulatory treatment according to the patient’s disease course, treatment preferences, and compliance history
• Evaluate what is known about the value of microbial flora and how maintaining a healthy flora is important.
