OVERVIEW

Spring Clinical Lipid Update (CLU) Conference is organized by National Lipid Association (NLA) and will be held during Feb 23 - 25, 2018 at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort And Spa, San Antonio, Texas, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, advanced practice registered nurses, and registered dietitians with an interest in lipid management. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

This conference is the premier event for lipidology experts who are interested in networking with their peers while gaining an understanding of innovations within the field. Some of the topics this year include recent cardiovascular outcomes trials in T2DM and implications for clinical practice, CETP inhibition, and mobile health (mhealth) technology’s role in optimizing patient outcomes through cardiovascular risk factor and medication interventions.

Educational Objectives :
At the conclusion of this activity, all participants should be able to:

• Discuss strategies to improve the knowledge, skills or performance of the healthcare team

Session I: CVD & Dietary Fats

• Analyze case studies in lipid management to improve treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease
• Assess the impact of saturated fatty acids on lipid levels and the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD)
• Identify nutritional guidelines for the reduction of CVD

Session II: Inherited Disorders, Can They be Impacted by Lifestyle Management?

• Identify which interventions, including lifestyle changes and various drugs in combination, are most appropriate for patients with FH
• Utilize current treatment strategies for patients with FH

Session III: CETP Inhibition 4th time a charm?

• Explain the role genetics plays in the function of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP)
• Critically appraise the design of clinical trials of CETP inhibitors including their impact on study outcomes
• Assess the implications of recent clinical trials for the use of CETP inhibitors

Session IV: Risk Assessment in Familial Hypercholesterolemia

• Compare screening recommendations for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH)
• Describe the current and future technologies available for genetic FH screening
• Review the use of newer imaging modalities for FH screening

Session V: Expanding Horizons in CVD Risk Reduction: Comprehensive Risk Factor Management for the Clinical Lipidologist

• Describe the impact of diabetes medication cardiovascular outcomes trials on cardiovascular disease prevention in patients with type 2 diabetes
• Outline current issues and approaches to ASCVD risk assessment for the use in managing hypertension
• Identify appropriate use of aspirin for primary prevention of ASCVD

Session VI: Mobile Health (mhealth) Technology: Optimizing Patient Outcomes Through Cardiovascular Risk Factor and Medication Interventions

• Describe mhealth tools healthcare providers can use with patients to improve medication use and adherence
• Describe mhealth tools healthcare providers can use with patients to increase exercise and optimize Cardiovascular (CV) risk factors
• Recommend appropriate mhealth tools for patients to use to optimize CV risk factors and medication use

Session VII: What Does the Evidence Say?

• Critically appraise available evidence for the use of nonprescription supplements
• Review the evidence for the use of estrogen replacement to lower lipoprotein(a)
• Evaluate the safety and efficacy data for niacin and fibrates for the treatment of dyslipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
