OVERVIEW

Global Smile Foundation Comprehensive Cleft Care Workshop is organized by Global Smile Foundation, Inc and will be held during Apr 25 - 27, 2018 at Gefinor Rotana Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon.

The target audience for this medical event is Surgeons, speech pathologists, and nurses, with a special emphasis on practitioners from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region, including the Arab World and the Gulf States), West Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Mission and Values :
There is a large unmet need for comprehensive and sustainable cleft care throughout the world. We believe that all patients deserve the best quality care offered by well-trained cleft teams.

This mission is to teach world-class quality cleft care that provides practical, reproducible, evidence-based and experience-proven outcomes through hands-on training skills lab and simulation sessions, small team discussions, and detailed review of cases with one-on-one feedback from experts in the field.

Conference Objectives are :

SURGERY:
• Learn normal craniofacial anatomy and abnormal anatomy associated with velopharyngeal insufficiency, unilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft palate, bilateral cleft lip, bilateral cleft palate, revision cleft lip, revision cleft palate and cleft lip rhinoplasty.
• Learn the surgical markings of surgical procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency, unilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft palate, bilateral cleft lip, bilateral cleft palate, revision cleft lip, revision cleft palate and cleft lip rhinoplasty.
• Learn the surgical steps of procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency, unilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft palate, bilateral cleft lip, bilateral cleft palate, revision cleft lip, revision cleft palate and cleft lip rhinoplasty.
• Hands-on live simulation of surgical procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency, unilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft palate, bilateral cleft lip, bilateral cleft palate, revision cleft lip, revision cleft palate and cleft lip rhinoplasty.
• Management of complications associated with surgical procedures for velopharyngeal insufficiency, unilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft palate, bilateral cleft lip, bilateral cleft palate, revision cleft lip, revision cleft palate and cleft lip rhinoplasty.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY:
• Learn the anatomy of craniofacial abnormalities and correlate with normal anatomy
• Learn about the different types of orofacial clefts and how they relate to embryological development
• Learn about the dental and occlusal anomalies and their effects on speech
• Learn about Otological and hearing problems in patients with orofacial clefts
• Learn about resonance disorders and velopharyngeal dysfunction

NURSING:
• Learn the anatomy of craniofacial abnormalities and correlate with normal anatomy
• Learn about the different types of orofacial clefts and how they relate to embryological development
• Nursing care pathways in patients with orofacial clefts
• Role of the cleft nurse specialist in different patient age groups
• Preparing a child for surgery: feeding, growth and anesthetic considerations
• Pre, peri and postoperative nursing care including wound care and pain control
