Selection and Medical Management of Weight Loss Surgery Patients is organized by Duke University Health System and will be held on Mar 03, 2018 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa, Cary, North Carolina, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is intended to meet the needs of primary care providers and other specialists who manage patients with morbid obesity. This course is also beneficial to residents and fellows in surgical or medical training, as well as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 6.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
As weight loss surgery continues to become a commonplace procedure for the treatment of morbid obesity, primary care and specialty providers face constantly changing treatment options and a growing population of post-surgical patients that require different treatment methods. Recent advances in minimally invasive surgery have provided safer, more effective surgical treatment options.
This course will provide participants with an understanding of the best treatment options for their patients. Furthermore, there is a growing population of patients who have undergone surgery, and whose treatment has required the implantation of a device, or the reconstruction of gastrointestinal anatomy that presents a new set of considerations for primary care and specialty physicians involved in the long term care of the patient. This course will address potential complications related to the surgical procedure, and best practices for diagnosis and treatment of other health-related events after the surgery.
Conference Objectives are :
• Identify the disease of morbid obesity and its co-morbid conditions
• Increase knowledge of weight loss surgery procedures and procedure outcomes
• Explain common operative and post-operative complications
• Review and discuss how to manage changes after weight loss surgery; diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bone metabolism, pregnancy, depression, and endocrine diseases
• Help patients achieve and maintain successful weight loss
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
