Adult Congenital Heart Disease in the 21st Century is organized by MedStar Health and will be held during April 13 - 14, 2018 at College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, Hyattsville, Maryland, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is pediatricians, primary care physicians, internists, cardiologists and surgeons who specialize in both pediatric and adult CHD, as well as maternal-fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians and gynecologists, electrophysiologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists residents, fellows, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, geneticists and other members of the healthcare team interested in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of adults with congenital heart disease. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 12.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Course Overview :
CHD represents a medical challenge throughout a patient’s lifespan, including managing pregnancies in an increasing number of women with CHD who are in their childbearing years. Women with CHD are 8 times as likely to experience cardiovascular complications during pregnancy and have 6 times higher risk of dying compared to women without CHD. Women with complex congenital heart disease are twice as likely to have cardiovascular complications compared to those with simple heart defects. Managing these patients through pregnancy safely can be extremely challenging and requires a multidisciplinary approach. This challenge can be adequately met by a coordination of efforts from physicians and other healthcare providers amongst a variety of specialties.

This two-day program offers physicians and other health care providers a comprehensive review of the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of adult congenital heart disease and heart disease during pregnancy. Through a series of multidisciplinary lectures and question and answer sessions, the ACHD conference invites all disciplines to examine the progression and treatment of congenital heart disease from adolescence through adulthood. This includes not only cardiac but also non-cardiac complications including neurodevelopmental challenges and multi-system organ involvement. The conference also reviews innovative treatment options that may be utilized for adult congenital heart disease patients

Course Objectives :
• Identify the increasing prevalence of adults with congenital heart disease and address some of the complications that can result from lifelong congenital heart disease.
• Consult and coordinate with expert maternal/fetal medicine care for optimization of outcomes for mothers and babies
• Appraise the catheter-based interventional procedures in adults with congenital heart disease, and compare the risks and benefits of each modality and approach.
• Identify the prevalence of mood disorders in adult congenital heart disease patients.
• Identify how to evaluate and treat patients with coarctation of the aorta.
• Review new and innovative therapies that might be utilized for patients with adult congenital heart disease.
• Identify and understand the implications of neurocognitive challenges that adults with congenital heart disease experience.
• Recognize the extra-cardiac complications that occur in adults with congenital heart disease.
• Consult and coordinate with ACHD experts for cardiac transplantation and advanced mechanical support evaluation in ACHD patients.
