OVERVIEW
2nd Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) CME Surabaya 2018: Symposium and Workshop on "Maternal and Fetal Heart Disease in Pregnancy" is organized by Airlangga University / Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Obstetry and Ginnology Indonesia Society / Perkumpulan Obstetri Dan Ginekologi Indonesia (POGI) and will be held from Aug 25 - 26, 2018 at Wyndham Hotel, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.
Course Description:
Cardiac disease in pregnancy possesses high maternal morbidity and mortality. In UK, overall rate of mortality from cardiac disease has risen from 7.3/million births in the 1982–84 triennium1 to 22.7/million births in the 2003–05 triennium. The major leading cause of death is acquired heart disease which arose fivefold during three decades. In Easr Java, cardiac disease is the third leading cause of maternal death during 2012-2017 period which comprises from 6.7% on 2012 and increases to 22% on 2017. Data from Department of Medicine, and the Center for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Illinois at Chicago shows 28.1% of the cardiac-associated deaths are preventable. Congenital heart defect has also become the next challenge. It is a life-threatening state which requires further optimal management. In UK, 3.8/1000 deliveries have babies with congenital heart defect while our data in dr. Soetomo hospital, Surabaya on 2017, CHD incidence is 1% of total deliveries. The comprehensive management from prenatal diagnosis until multidisciplinary involvement will improve the survival of these babies.
As one of education center in Indonesia and especially in eastern Indonesia in particular, Fetomaternal Medical Division, Obstetrics Gynecology, Medical Faculty of Airlangga University / Dr. Soetomo - RS Airlangga University will always contribute in efforts to decrease mother mortality rate, one of them through enrichment of science and skill and research cooperation to analyze mother death in East Java and Indonesia in general.
On this occasion, we will hold the symposium "Continuing Medical Education: Maternal and Fetal heart disease in pregnancy", an international seminar by inviting international experts. The international speakers who have interest and expertise on this topic are, Dr. Hasri Bin Samion, MD, M.Med, FNHAM, FAsCC (Institut Jantung Negara, Malaysia), Dr. Geetha Kandavello, MBBS, MRCP, FNHAM, FAsCC and Hye-sung Won, M.D., Ph.D. (Asan Medical Center, South Korea) The target of this event is obstetrics and gynecology specialists, consultants, cardiologists and pediatricians.
