Course Description:
This half-day conference is designed to educate dialysis unit staff, particularly technicians, enabling them to provide accurate information to their dialysis patients about what they can expect once referred for kidney transplant evaluation. Through a partnership with dialysis unit staff, we are able to provide a consistent message about the lifesaving benefit of kidney transplantation, the best option for kidney transplant which is living donation and what patients will encounter as a part of their evaluation.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this conference, participants will be able to understand:
• Benefits of living kidney donation and participation in paired exchange registry as the best option for kidney transplantation.
• Members of the Kidney Selection Committee, the function of committee members, and the process for reviewing patients for active listing.
• Psychosocial characteristics that are critical for a successful renal transplant and the financial challenges patients face when preparing for and after kidney transplantation and the resources available.
• Experiences shared by kidney recipients in different clinical scenarios.
