The OSU Medical Ethics Conference: Ethics of Medical Marijuana in the Context of Pain and Opioid Epidemic is organized by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUMC) and would be held during Oct 05 - 06, 2017 at James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, Columbus, Ohio, United States of America. Course description :
Clinicians and health professionals, & policy makers in Ohio & other states are challenged with the controversy over medical marijuana. Complicating this dilemma is the context of an opioid crisis, continued demand to address pain and suffering, and perception of potential financial conflicts of interest.

This conference seeks to help the clinician answer – “will I participate in certifying for medical marijuana?” Further, it will help equip and enforce a broader audience of health professionals, policy makers and community members to move beyond just the “facts” regarding marijuana but to the ethics of marijuana specifically related to pain, suffering, opioids, and conflicts of interest.

Conference Objectives are :
• Identify the host of ethical dilemmas related to medical marijuana, pain and suffering and, opioids.
• Evaluate diverse views on marijuana as a treatment.
• Describe the potential conflicts of interest involved in the marijuana debate.
• Identify the changing legal landscape related to medical marijuana and treatment of pain.
• Recognize dilemmas involving end-of-life care and cancer treatment related to symptom relief with controlled substances.
• Contrast questions of deeper morality beyond simple scientific inquiry.
• Describe historical variances in medical practice regarding marijuana opioids.
• Describe the current drug and opioid epidemic and marijuana's role in it.
