OVERVIEW

European Respiratory Society (ERS) Paediatric Noninvasive Ventilation is organized by European Respiratory Society (ERS) and would be held during Nov 29 - Dec 01, 2017 at Imagine Institute of Genetic Diseases, Paris, Ile-de-France, France. The target audience for this medical event for Clinicians (paediatricians, intensive care doctors, pulmonologists), Respiratory therapists.

This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the major aspects of paediatric noninvasive ventilation. It will especially focus on practical training of physicians dealing with children with upper airway obstructions that can lead to severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSAS), neuromuscular and lung diseases that require continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Through practical interactive cases, participants will learn how to manage individual patients and understand which equipment (interfaces and devices) should be used for each child.

Educational aims :

Following this course, participants will understand
• The indications, benefits, limits and side effects of CPAP and NIV for children with OSAS, neuromuscular and lung diseases
• How to initiate, monitor and withdraw CPAP and NIV in children
• The different CPAP and NIV modes, as well as the different interfaces available for children, including their advantages and limits
• Practical aspects of cough-assisted techniques in children with neuromuscular disease, as well as swallowing and speech problems
• Alternatives of CPAP such as high flow nasal cannula
• The usefulness of CPAP and NIV in simple, basic but also complex clinical cases or conditions such as palliative care

• NIV as an aid for speech and swallowing in children with neuromuscular diseases

• Monitoring of children treated with CPAP or NIV
• NIV transition from the intensive care unit to the home
