Anaesthesia as a Cancer Disease Modifier is organized by The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) and would be held on Nov 02, 2017 at The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, London, England, United Kingdom.

Cancer is an increasing burden on the NHS. We will all face more cancer work on our lists as surgery remains the mainstay of treatment. This seminar will outline current best practice in the anaesthetic management for cancer surgery. Anaesthesia outcomes are moving beyond the recovery room, beyond 30 day survival and increasingly into cancer recurrence rates. There will be an exploration of where we set our personal change bar, an overview of molecular mechanisms for cancer recurrence then we will look at anaesthetic agents and analgesic strategies that optimise outcome. Finally there will be a discussion of what best practice looks like and whether or not we have reached our personal change point.

Objectives:

• Outline the increasing burden of cancer treatment on the NHS and reflect on how this will impact on their institution.
• Plan anaesthetic techniques in line with current published evidence to optimise cancer survival
• Outline novel opiate sparing analgesic regimes
• Outline the challenges of individualised anaesthetic practioner care vs standardised care
