OVERVIEW
4th Annual Current Issues in the Care of Dialysis and Transplant Patients is organized by MedStar Washington Hospital Center and would be held on Oct 7, 2017 at Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center, Washington, Dist Of Col, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event for nephrologists, primary care physicians, cardiologists, endocrinologists, hospitalists, residents, fellows, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, nutritionists, dietitians, dialysis technicians and healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease, end stage renal disease, and kidney and pancreas transplantations. This cme conference has been approved with a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
This one-day educational symposium will examine kidney and pancreas transplantation with a special emphasis on the multidisciplinary approach in pre and post transplant care. The conference will provide updates on clinical trials in kidney transplantation and immunosuppressive therapies, review measures that could enable live kidney and pancreatic transplantation, offer insight on complex post-transplant issues with a focus on specific population subsets deemed higher risk such as patients with HIV infection, HCV infection, patient with preformed anti-HLA antibodies, a higher BMI, and individuals at risk of medical non-adherence, etc. Additionally, the course will discuss avenues to explore advances in immunosuppression to enable a personalized approach to minimize the risk of post-transplant complications.
Objectives
• Discuss recent advances in kidney and/or pancreas transplant
• Identify factors that both limit and enhance access to kidney and/or pancreas transplant
• Identify patients who may be at risk for both non-compliance and for suboptimal transplant outcomes and implement measures to eliminate and/or minimize such risks and complications
• Identify specific patient subsets who are considered at higher risk for lack of access to transplantation and inferior post-transplant outcomes and identify and facilitate in such patient subgroups, such as those with HIV and HCV infections transplantation
