OVERVIEW
This course is designed to introduce the intensivist to critical care transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) through image acquisition by use of high fidelity TEE simulators in small group training sessions, while image interpretation mastery will be derived from the review of large numbers of TEE studies presented in interactive, case-based format.
Learning Objectives:
After participating in this educational activity, you should be able to:
- Explain indications, safety, risks, and benefits of critical care TEE
- Describe the utility of critical care TEE for assessment of hemodynamic function, diagnosis, and management of the patient with cardiopulmonary failure.
- Perform the measurement of stroke volume, indices of preload sensitivity, left-sided filling pressures, intracardiac pressures, right heart and left heart function, and valvular function using critical care TEE.
