The Role of the Dental Assistant in Safe Procedural Sedation is organized by American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and would be held during Nov 4 - 5, 2016 at Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, Phoenix, Arizona, United States of America. The target audience for this medical event basically for pediatric dentists. This CME Conference has been approved with 11 hours of continuing education credits.
This course is specially designed for the pediatric dental team to increase their knowledge and understanding of office preparation and medical emergencies that may occur during a sedation visit. A review of the pharmacology and clinical application of oral sedation and the use of nitrous oxide/oxygen will be included.

New: This four-hour workshop on Saturday morning is designed for a hands-on experience for the dental assistant. Participants will rotate through multiple stations including emergency airway rescue techniques, monitoring, basic life support, and the appropriate use of restraining devices.
Upon completion of the course, the dental assistant should have a better understanding of :
• The continuum of sedatives and anesthesia
• The anatomical, physiological and pharmacological issues specific to the pediatric patient
• Anatomical and pharmacological aspects of local anesthesia
• The different types of oral sedatives and the use of nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation
• What types of emergency drugs and equipment are available and their uses
• How to prepare the pediatric dental office for an organized response to a medical emergency
• Diagnosing and assisting in the management of sedative/medical emergencies
• The American Academy of Pediatrics and the AAPD joint guidelines of monitoring and management of pediatric patients during and after sedation for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
