The Medical Management of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis (Dec, 2016)

The Medical Management of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis is organized by University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) Continuing Medical Education and would be held during Dec 08 - 10, 2016 at Park Central Hotel San Francisco, San Francisco, California, United States of America.

This course provides the active intermediate-to-advanced clinician with a comprehensive review of the science of HIV and HCV as well as updates on the application of HIV and HCV therapies. For ambitious newer HIV clinicians, we will continue our New Clinicians Track (NCT), which provides four additional lectures that cover antiretroviral therapy (ART), basic pharmacology, ART resistance, and opportunistic infections.

The course lecturers are leading clinicians and researchers who also are dedicated to teaching in their areas of expertise. Dr. Diane Havlir will frame the conference in the opening plenary session with her keen take on the top 10 issues in HIV Medicine. Mr. Phil Wilson, Director of the Black AIDS Institute, will share his perspective on the social aspects of HIV/AIDS that affect our clinical endeavors every day, and Dr. Steven Deeks will update us on the progress toward a cure for AIDS.

Objectives :
The purpose of this course is to increase competence and improve clinician practice in HIV care. We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:
• Apply new recommendations for initiating and timely switching of antiretroviral combinations in appropriate patients;
• Apply in practice the latest treatment guidelines and recommendations for the prevention of HIV transmission and the appropriate use of PrEP
• Identify the new developments and apply treatment recommendations for transgender-care
• Diagnose and treat common HIV-related skin disorders and skin infections
• Apply new recommendations for appropriate treatment of Hepatitis C and HIV co-infection;
• Exercise new recommendations for management of alcohol and drug addiction in HIV infected individuals;
• Identify the new developments and apply treatment recommendations in reproductive health for HIV-infected men and women;
• Align practice patterns with current evidence and guidelines for treating hyperlipidemia and HIV
• Diagnose and treat sexually transmitted infections;
• Understand and exercise new recommendations for management of travel in HIV-infected individuals.
