The Ten Day Seminar is a unique program for physicians, researchers, public health practitioners, and other health care professionals designed to provide training in new areas of investigation and application of new methods related to the promotion of cardiovascular health and prevention of heart disease and stroke, including descriptive epidemiology, quality of care and outcomes research, genetic epidemiology, policy, and environmental approaches to health.
Course Objectives :
* Incorporate into research, teaching and / or practice, an increased understanding of the nature of cardiovascular health (CVH) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), especially coronary heart disease and stroke, and epidemiologic approaches to the investigation of these diseases.
* Improve research productivity by applying the major epidemiologic approaches to the investigation of current research questions through collaborative, multidisciplinary development of research proposals.
Incorporate into grant writing, publications, teaching and practice an enhanced ability to critically evaluate epidemiologic evidence.
* Compare and contrast study designs required to test specific hypotheses related to the distribution, risk factors and prognosis of heart disease and stroke in the population.
* Identify federal and foundation grant resources for carrying out cardiovascular disease epidemiology research
Increase activity in relevant cardiovascular health policy advocacy by acting on improved ability to recognize and evaluate the epidemiologic basis for policy and practice in CVD prevention and CVH promotion.
