This is a comprehensive course on diabetes geared towards primary care providers. There is an immense need for education as the incidence of diabetes in the general population reaches 10%; primary care clinics carry the major burden of these patients. Didactic lectures and interactive workshops offered in this program will provide information on current classification of diabetes, glycemic targets, as well as effective diagnostic and management strategies using available therapeutic modalities. A highlight of this course is an update on the use of newly available pharmacologic agents for diabetes. Current therapies in obesity, management of diabetic kidney disease and lipid disorders in diabetes will be reviewed. Offerings also include workshops which provide interactive case discussions on medical nutrition therapy as well as use of oral and injectable agents. Other timely topics include discussions on preparing patients for surgery/procedures, cost issues and use of technology in diabetes management.

• Identify the type of diabetes for any given patient and provide adequate therapies based on the classification
• Discuss new therapeutics and older agents to treat diabetes
• Recognize the role of medications vs. surgery in the management of obesity
• Screen, diagnose and treat early kidney disease in diabetes
• Identify and appropriately manage lipid disorders in diabetes
