Computer Aided Maxillofacial Surgery (with Human Anatomic Specimens) by AO North America and would be held during Apr 22 - 24, 2016 at Hilton Tampa Downtown, Tampa, Florida, United States of America. The targeted audience for this medical event basically for attending surgeons in the fields of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic and Reconstruction, Ophthalmology
and Oculoplastics. Senior Residents (PGY 3 and above) and Fellows may also
find this course beneficial.
Learning Objectives :
At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:
– Display current knowledge regarding computer Aided surgical planning
and intraoperative navigation in the field of maxillofacial surgery
– Identify appropriate applications for computer Aided pre-surgical
planning and intraoperative navigation for treatment of traumatic,
neoplastic and congenital diseases
– Discuss the applicability of computer Aided techniques when
analyzing postoperative results and outcome analysis
– Demonstrate the psychomotor skills necessary to perform both
pre-surgical planning and intra-operative navigation
– Generate a pre-surgical plan using computer Aided planning software
– Apply intraoperative navigation to guide fracture reduction and
hardware placement
– Evaluate the applicability of computer Aided techniques when
analyzing postoperative results and outcome analysis.
Pre-surgical planning software allows surgeons to generate a precise
3-dimensional, virtual representation of the skull. The proposed surgical repair
(including osteotomies and bone advancements/reconstruction) can then be
performed in a virtual environment prior to the actual procedure. The virtual
pre-surgical plan can then be used to fabricate implants and cutting/drill guides.
It can also be imported into an intra-operative navigational system to help guide
movement of bone segments and confirm the location of implants to improve
surgical precision.
Computer Aided Maxillofacial Surgery (with Human Anatomic Specimens) will be a cadaver based dissection course focusing on computer Aided pre-surgical planning, as well as intra-operative imaging and navigation. There will be a full series of lectures by world renowned experts. A full range of
topics will include: Trauma, post oncologic reconstruction, intra-operative imaging and navigation, orthognathic surgery, congenital abnormalities, and facial transplantation.
After the lecture series, participants will complete 3 different surgical modules:
1) Post traumatic orbito-zygomatic reconstruction
2) Mandibular reconstruction (fibula free flap)
3) Orthognathic reconstruction.
