The first World Congress of Optometry “Vision health knowledge for the world” is an innovative partnership between the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and its associate member the Colombian Federation of Optometrists (FEDOPTO). The World Congress will rotate biennially around the globe and intends to strengthen the presence of optometry globally ensuring sustainable support for its development in all areas. The chosen venue for the first World Congress is the beautiful city of Medellin in Colombia.
The World Congress is aimed at optometrists, vision scientists, optometry educators, researchers, students and other visual health professionals interested in learning, sharing knowledge and networking with like-minded professionals who work for affordable eye health and vision care for all.
The Congress will offer an exciting programme of clinical, education, strategic, commercial and public outreach components. The Scientific track of the programme will feature cutting edge research and clinical practice; the Educators’ track will offer a unique platform to shape optometric education while during the public eye health fail people of Medellin will access quality eye health and vision care. The World Congress will bring together optometric expertise from across the world offering delegates globally recognised US COPE and UK CET continuing education accreditation. For Latin American and Colombian optometrists in particular this will be an important pilot experience offering accredited sessions and ensuring continuous education.
