OVERVIEW
The Palliative Medicine and Supportive Oncology Symposium focuses on providing an intensive multidisciplinary review of cutting-edge topics in the rapidly developing field of palliative medicine and supportive oncology. This year the Machaskee Lecture will feature Dr. Gabriel Leger speaking on “Dementia: Does Differential Matter?†Together, we will explore potential solutions to improve the quality of care of patients with chronic illnesses through palliative and supportive oncology therapies. We will examine opioid addiction in the cancer patient with concurrent chronic non-malignant pain, learning to incorporate less commonly used opioids into clinical practice. Parallel workshops and sessions are being offered with a focus on supportive oncology and key palliative medicine topics: teaching communication skills, wound care, and integrating mid-level providers in palliative medicine and hospice.
