Focused Thoracic and Vascular Ultrasound

Study thoracic and vascular ultrasonography for diagnosis and management of the critically ill patient in a hands-on learning environment using human models and pleural and vascular ultrasound task trainers. Expert faculty will provide comprehensive training in image acquisition and interpretation. For program directors, the integrated, hands-on approach to pleural and vascular procedure guidance references the American Board of Internal Medicine guidelines on critical care medicine training. Novice sonographers will focus on the use of ultrasonography for pleural and vascular procedural guidance, DVT studies, and diagnosis of respiratory failure. You should have knowledge of the basic aspects of pleural and vascular access without ultrasound. Some familiarity with ultrasound physics, lower extremity venous anatomy, as well as basic lung ultrasound signatures, will prove helpful but is not required. Certification of Completion learners and learners with previous ultrasound experience will have extensive hands-on training in the use of and integration into clinical practice of ultrasonography for procedural guidance, DVT studies, and the lung. Benefit from structured and observed repetition of these exams, an invaluable step toward achieving competency. This course complements the 2-day Critical Care Echocardiography course immediately following.
