2019 ASTCT Clinical Research Training Course is organized by American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) and will be held from Jul 10 - 14, 2019 at Hotel Park City, Autograph Collection, Park City, Utah, United States of America. Description: Tuition, travel, housing and meal expenses will be paid by the society and corporate sponsors for up to 12 scholars to attend the course. Participants will be competitively selected. Preference will be given to fellows and faculty with no more than two years of BMT experience following training or a faculty appointment. Objectives and Curriculum: The ASTCT Board of Directors created the course in 2006 because of concerns that clinical fellowship programs don’t adequately cover the principles of research and how to take findings from the laboratory to the clinic. The course helps close the gap by addressing those deficiencies. The course includes formal presentations and extensive follow-up dialogue and small-group discussion, covering topics such as: • Research subject eligibility and recruitment • Clinical trial design • Biostatistics • Data management and quality control • Study endpoints • Late effects and quality of life • Clinical pharmacology, including polypharmacy and drug interactions • Regulatory compliance • Relationships with pharmaceutical companies and third-party payers • Opportunities for grants and clinical research training • Grant writing • Working with a mentor • Translational trials • Working with laboratory investigators • Research ethics • Subject safety • Each participant will be expected to have a research project that can be developed in discussions with faculty and with peers. Description: The purpose of this conference is to increase the knowledge and skills of sonographers and physicians who care for the mother or child with possible heart disease. The first day will focus on optimizing ultrasound screening of heart defects and rhythm problems in the fetus. The second day will focus on more in-depth imaging and management of complex heart defects in the fetus. These sessions will increase the expertise of participants on imaging these anomalies before and after interventions, and will also add to their knowledge of the expected courses and outcomes in different types of cardiac rhythm abnormalities and complex congenital heart defects. New Individual Fetal Scanning Sessions: For the first time, attendees can practice scanning fetal hearts one-on-one with an experienced faculty member’s supervision. Participants may be able to scan fetal hearts both with and without cardiac pathology, depending on the number of expectant mothers volunteering. To sign up for a 30-minute session, check that option when registering for the conference and pay the additional $50 fee. Sessions are held from 10 AM–noon Friday, Sept. 28. Attendees will receive a session time through email and can specify whether they’re interested in scanning basic or more complex cases.
