PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Initial Course is organized by Conemaugh Health System and will be held from Nov 19 - 20, 2019 at DLP Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, United States of America. The target audience for this medical event is physicians, nurses, paramedics and any medical professional who responds to pediatric emergencies in and out of the hospital. There is a written and skill test that must be passed in order to receive a completion card. Description: This 2 day video based and instructor led course helps the healthcare provider develop the knowledge and skill needed for emergency evaluation and management of children and infant cardiac patients. This course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with the skills of assessing and treating cardiovascular emergencies in infants, children and adolescents. This course covers high quality CPR, management of respiratory emergencies, rhythm disturbances and more. Participants will: • Describe the timely recognition and interventions required to prevent respiratory and cardiac arrest in any pediatric patient. • Describe the systematic approach to the pediatric assessment by using the initial impression, primary and secondary assessments and diagnostic tests. • Describe priorities and specific interventions for infants and children with respiratory and/ or circulatory emergencies. • Explain the importance of effective team dynamics, including individual roles and responsibilities, during a pediatric resuscitation. • Describe elements of postresuscitation management. • Perform effective high quality CPR, effective respiratory management within scope of practice. • Select and apply appropriate cardiorespiratory monitoring. • Select and administer the appropriate medications and electrical therapies when presented with an arrhythmia scenario. • Establish rapid vascular access to administer fluid and medications. • Demonstrate effective communication and team dynamics both as a team member and as a team leader Prerequisites: • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider card for the initialcourse. • Current AHA BLS & PALS card for the renewal course. • Background in pediatric rhythm recognition and cardiovascular pharmacology Acceptance denied if prerequisites aren’t met.
