Course Description : This course is designed to provide an update on recent developments in the management of patients with advanced liver disease including chronic hepatitis B, cirrhosis and complications of portal hypertension. Through a series of overview lectures and case presentations, participants will become familiar with the use of oral antiviral agents for HBV, incidence and impact of marijuana use in liver transplant candidates, use of checkpoint inhibitors of hepatobiliary malignancy, changes to the liver allocation system, use of anti-coagulants in patients with cirrhosis, and endoscopic approaches to obesity. The goal of this course is for the following objectives to be understood and utilized within your practice: • When, how and who to treat with chronic HBV infection • Risk factors and outcomes with marijuana use in patients with liver disease • Use of serum and urine-based biomarkers to detect and diagnose alcoholic liver disease • Indications and limitations of checkpoint inhibitors for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma • Recent changes to the liver allocation policy and use of the national liver review board for exception cases • How to diagnose and treat portal vein thromboses in patients with and without liver disease • Impact of aging on immune function and outcomes in solid organ transplant recipients • Indications, risks and benefits of endoscopic approaches to obesity Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
