Hospital-Based Massage: A Road Map to the Intricacies of Working in a Hospital Environment is organized by the Centura Health and will be held from Sep 18 - 22, 2019 at Centura Health Integrative Medicine at Longmont, Longmont, Colorado, United States of America. This Course has been approved for a maximum of 32 CE credit hours. Description: As Massage therapy becomes more recognized as a valuable component to patient care in the medical setting, so does the need for skilled and knowledgeable massage therapists trained to work in complex medical environments. This course is designed to bridge the gap between Western medical practices and integrative medicine, helping to set new standards and expectations for integrative medical care, and demonstrating how massage can substantially impact patient care. In this 5-day course, students will learn the intricacies of working in a hospital environment, including: • Scope of practice • Patient documentation and electronic charting • Patient confidentiality (HIPPA) • Medical terminology • Introduction to commonly used pharmaceuticals • Therapist and patient safety in a hospital environment • Communication with other health care professionals • Management of infectious control and precautions • Proper adaptation of mass techniques for the diverse population of patients including but not limited to working with: ○ Medically frail patients ○ Oncology patients ○ Postpartum patients ○ Patients facing end-of-life As part of this course, participants will have the unique opportunity of visiting The Colorado Learning Center of Human Anatomy located in Longmont, CO. Students will get to see the value of working with a human donor program to enhance a more specific visualization of the inner form of the human body to enrich their practice Prerequisites: This course is open to massage therapists with proof of graduating from an accredited 500-hour massage therapy school or current students of an approved 500-hour massage school who have successfully completed a minimum of Swedish massage.
