Course Description : In the Intercollegiate MRCS OSCE Exam, the ‘Clinical and Procedural Skills’ component, making up about 15-20% of the total marks, will test the candidate’s capacity to apply sound basic science/clinical knowledge in a practical context. The candidate’s ability to perform practical tasks related to surgery that requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and visual/spatial awareness will be assessed. In addition, it will also test aspects such as capacity, consent, theatre safety, WHO checklist and principles of safe surgery. This intensive hands-on practical skills course will take the candidate through all the procedures that have been examined in recent years, allows practice in realistic exam conditions and will provide structured feedback for further development. Course Description : Taught by clinical anatomists and surgeons, this highly regarded and greatly acclaimed course is intended to help trainees prepare for the surgical anatomy and pathology components of the MRCS OSCE exam. The sessions will be predominantly delivered by small group demonstrations and tutorials using anatomical prosections, relevant pathological specimens, osteology and surface anatomy. This course, which takes into consideration the changes introduced in 2018, will: consolidate the candidate's core and applied surgical knowledge in anatomy and relevant pathology; provide a focused revision of pertinent exam topics in this area, and; aid the candidate's aptitude to handle the OSCE stations effectively. Description: This intensive one-day revision course covers the clinical examination and communication skills components of the MRCS Part B exam. The course aims to consolidate the trainee's understanding of the clinical consultation skills component of the exam and aid the trainee's ability to perform clinical examinations efficiently and present the findings to the examiner in a systematic yet concise manner. The forenoon session will cover all important clinical examinations that are tested in the exam and the afternoon session will be dedicated to structured interviews, communication skills workstations, and information giving / information gathering / breaking bad news. About 6-8 patient-centred clinical scenarios will be used to reflect the situations experienced in everyday practice; these scenarios will also be in line with what is commonly tested in the exam. There will be an opportunity for every participant to participate in performing clinical examinations and to engage in role-play scenarios.
