Dr. Zsuzsanna McMahan is an assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include rheumatology and scleroderma.

Dr. McMahan received her M.D. degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She completed her internship and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins. During her rheumatology fellowship, she earned her master of health science in clinical investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Upon completing her fellowship in June 2012, Dr. McMahan joined the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center as full-time faculty. Supported by the Rheumatology Research Foundation Scientist Development Award and the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund, she currently focuses 80 percent of her time on conducting translational research under the mentorship of Drs. Antony Rosen, Livia-Casciola-Rosen and Fredrick Wigley.

Dr. McMahan’s research focuses specifically on novel antigen identification in scleroderma and defining the target tissue in this disease. The remainder of her academic time is allocated to patient care and education.
