Zoltan K. Mari MD

Dr. Zoltan K. Mari is a renowned neurologist, clinician-researcher, and expert in Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Mari is the Ruvo Family Endowed Chair and Director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, a medical center dedicated to state-of-the-art care and research for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases and their families. He is also co-director of the Cleveland Clinic Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence and co-Principal Investigator of the Lewy Body Dementia Association Research Center of Excellence.

In addition to his focus on patient care, Dr. Mari engages in diverse research, including nutritional and lifestyle interventions, clinical neurophysiology, wearables, telemedicine and remote care, biomarkers, and disease modification approaches, including recent groundbreaking work in the protection against neurotoxic immune responses in Parkinson’s disease and dementias. Dr. Mari is an investigator in multiple national clinical trials for Parkinson’s disease, and he has published over 90 scientific and medical research studies in the field. He is also associate editor of the Parkinsonism and Related Disorders journal.

Before joining the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Mari served as Director of the Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders Center at Johns Hopkins. He was also Director of the National Parkinson Foundation’s Center of Excellence, the Movement Disorder Clinical Fellowship Program, and the Deep Brain Stimulation Center at the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Medicine. Prior to his tenure at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Mari completed his clinical fellowships in both movement disorders and clinical neurophysiology at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Mari received his M.D. from the University of Szeged, Hungary, graduating first in his class, then completed residency training in neurology at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, where he served as chief resident and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He is also co-founder of Neuraly, Inc., which is developing a revolutionary disease-modifying treatment for Parkinson’s disease.
