Zoltan G. Turi, MD, professor of medicine and interventional cardiologist at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, has been designated as a Master of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). Dr. Turi, who also serves as director of the Structural Heart Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, was selected as one of 18 in the inaugural class of Master Interventionalists of SCAI. The new designation, MSCAI, recognizes outstanding members of the Society who are nominated by their peers for having demonstrated excellence over the course of their careers and for their commitment to the highest levels of clinical care, innovation, publication, and teaching.

Board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology, Dr. Turi received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City, followed by research Fellowships in cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He subsequently did postdoctoral training in peripheral vascular intervention at Polyclinque Pasteur in Nancy, France.

As the new director of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s Structural Heart Program, Dr. Turi will lead a team devoted to expert care for individuals with advanced and complex structural heart disease. The program, in conjunction with RWJ’s advanced cardiac surgery initiatives, will provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art treatments such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). A specialist in interventional cardiology, Dr. Turi is the inventor of several devices that are widely utilized for coronary and structural heart interventions.

Dr. Turi serves on the editorial boards of multiple peer-reviewed journals. A noted, influential researcher and speaker, both nationally and internationally, he has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and editorials. Dr. Turi takes particular pride in having taught a generation of cardiologists and cardiology fellows the subtleties of hemodynamics, angiography, and evidence-based vascular access and closure techniques.
