Zlatko Fras MD, PhD, FESC, FACC

Fras was awarded his academical (MD, PhD) degrees at Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, and is licensed as Specialist of Internal Medicine and Cardiology & Vascular Medicine by the Medical Chamber of Slovenia. Currently holds the position of Medical Director, Division of Internal Medicine, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, and Professor of Internal Medicine, Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana. His clinical professional activities encompass different aspects in cardiovascular medicine, while his scientific work is oriented mainly into epidemiology and preventive cardiology, research of atherosclerosis and disorders of lipid metabolism, and physiology/pharmacology of fibrinolysis and physical activity.

Currently he holds a position of the President of the Slovenian Society of Cardiology. For more than a decade he is state appointed Chairman of the Slovene National Programme on Primary CVD Prevention. His scientific and professional interests are also in theory and practical implementation projects in the field of postgraduate education and competence based training (as well as CPD) in medicine - participates actively in both national and international professional organisations/societies; he recently served as a President of the UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) (2006-2011), and Chairman of the Committee for Postgraduate Training by the Medical Chamber of Slovenia (1998-2012).
