Prof. Zilfalil Bin Alwi, a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Genomics, serves as a consultant pediatrician, clinical geneticist, and lecturer at the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Pediatrics from Universiti Sains Malaysia, an MSc in Medical Genetics from the University of Glasgow, and a PhD in Pharmacogenetics from Aston University, UK.

With decades of experience, Prof. Zilfalil has made substantial contributions to the study of genetic diseases among the Malay population. He is actively involved in several international initiatives, including the Human Variome Project, the Global Globin Network, and the International Haemoglobinopathy Research Network (INHERENT).

He has authored over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented more than 200 papers at conferences around the world. In recognition of his impactful work in human genetics and thalassemia, he was awarded the UNESCO Chair on Human Genetics of Thalassemia in 2022.
