Prof. Zhang Xiaobing (the National Outstanding Youth Fund Owner, from Hunan University) visited our school. Prof. Zhang attended the 146th "Famous Teacher Forum" and gave a lecture titled "Chemical and biological fluorescent probes for the early diagnosis and treatment of disease". Prof. Long Yitao hosted the lecture and Prof. Guo Yang long, Li Yongsheng, Zhu Weihong, Zhu Linyong, and Xie Yongshu also attended the lecture.

In the lecture, Prof. Zhang started from the target of early diagnosis and the occurrence of the disease, which is closely related to the development of biological molecules and heavy metal ions, built a recognition system for biomolecules and in vivo detection of metal ions and intracellular application, described the progress in the novel fluorescent probe preparation recent years of his group. By optimizing the molecular structure of the probe, and using methods such as the fluorescence ratio strategy, he built small ultra-sensitive fluorescent probe molecules for the detection of heavy metal ions. In the detection of intracellular, Prof. Zhang used the DNAzyme to identify non-cofactor and designed the new molecular structures for recycling enzymes to improve the detection sensitivity. Furthermore, he combined nucleic acid molecule engineering technology with nano-technologies, built the nucleic acid nano-delivery system, and realized the intracellular delivery of model nucleic acid, which provided new methods and new ideas for intracellular detection of important biological molecules. What’s more, Prof. Zhang shared his article history and pointed out that a good article needs to choose the right angle, continue to explore, and persevere. After the lecture, Prof. Zhang discussed with participants and exchanged opinions.

Zhang Xiaobing was born in 1971. He received his MS in 1998, and Ph.D. in 2001, both in chemistry from Hunan University. He left Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (ENS de Lyon, France) and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Sweden) as a post-doctoral fellow from 2003 to 2005, as an inviting professor at ENS de Lyon in 2008, and visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009. He has been a professor at Hunan University since 2006. His research interests concern fluorescent probes and biosensors with more than 60 publications.
