Zachary Schmidt is currently in his fourth year as Assistant Director of Sports Medicine, where he oversees care for the baseball team and manages insurance coordination. Prior to joining Santa Clara, Schmidt completed a residency in orthopedics & diagnostics at Boston University, where he coordinated care for field hockey, track and field/cross country, club ice hockey, and men's lacrosse. His efforts notably contributed to the BU men's lacrosse team winning their first ever Patriot League Championship. Schmidt earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Coaching from Montana State University in 2018. During his undergraduate years, he coached youth lacrosse and served as a student assistant in the athletic training room, primarily supporting the football team. Following graduation, Schmidt pursued graduate studies at Boston University, obtaining a Master of Science in Athletic Training. During this time, he completed clinical rotations at BU, Emerson College, Terre Haute Fire Department, and University of Arizona.

After completing his master's degree, Schmidt returned to his alma mater for a two-year residency in orthopedics & diagnostics, an intensive educational and clinical program aimed at developing expertise in orthopedic care. Throughout the residency, he gained proficiency in musculoskeletal ultrasound, a critical imaging modality he employs in orthopedic evaluations. Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia, Schmidt moved to Polson, Montana, at the age of 12. He is passionate about video games, skateboarding, longboarding, cooking, exploring the outdoors, camping, hiking, snowboarding, and mountain biking. Currently residing in Santa Clara, Schmidt cheers for the Toronto Blue Jays, Vancouver Canucks, Utah Jazz, and staunchly supports the Oxford comma.
