Yun-hee Jeon RN, PhD, MNRes, BHSc

Professor Yun-Hee Jeon is a registered nurse, academic, and leading Australian researcher in psychogeriatrics and gerontology. Her research focuses on developing innovative and creative approaches to improving the health and well-being of older people. She studies ways to improve care quality and service delivery for older people in care, develop workforce capacity in aged care, and establish evidence-based- and practice-based benchmarks and tools for assessment and outcome measurement in dementia. She also explores in-depth, the experiences of people with chronic illness and their carers to help inform and provide context to research and policy. She is recognized for her significant contributions to building the evidence for person-centered care, a philosophy that she says underpins all of her research. “We focus on understanding and addressing the needs of an individual and their capabilities rather than impairment. Our research investigates care interventions to help older people maintain an optimum level of autonomy and independence despite their clinical condition”, notes Professor Jeon. As Director of StepUp for Dementia Research and StepUp for Ageing Research, she also leads several initiatives for public and patient involvement in research and citizen science.

Professor Jeon’s predominant research interests include improving the quality of life of persons with dementia through person-centered care and rehabilitation interventions, building the capacity of the aged care workforce and clinical leadership, bettering outcome and assessment measures in dementia, understanding the experiences of people with chronic illness, and developing new models of care which use person-centered and reablement approaches.
