Dr. Yun Shin Chun is a surgical oncologist dedicated to the care of patients with malignancies of the liver and biliary tract. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology and Division of Surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. Her research focus is optimizing patient selection for hepatic resection using molecular markers, mutational profiles, and response to systemic therapy. She is a co-principal investigator on an R01 grant awarded to MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, entitled Development and Validation of Prognostic Radiomic Markers of Response and Recurrence for Patients with Colorectal Liver Metastases. She is a Core Leader on a Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant on hepatocellular carcinoma awarded to MD Anderson. Her contributions to the SPORE include directing the institutional tissue bank on primary liver cancer, which is an integral component of the SPORE. She is a senior author of the first study in the literature on genetic alterations in resected multifocal intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The results demonstrated that genomic profiles are concordant across all tumors in an individual patient, suggesting that multifocal tumors in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma represent monoclonal metastatic seeding.
