Yuko Kono, MD, Ph.D., is a hepatologist with a special interest in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance, diagnosis, management, general hepatology, and liver transplantation. She is an expert in enhanced ultrasound imaging. Dr. Kono's clinical research is focused on contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging, particularly in tumor diagnosis and assessment of tumor response to treatment, as well as the HCC surveillance program. She is a professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Kono received her medical and doctoral degrees and completed her residency and fellowship at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan. Her medical training includes general hepatology, interventional radiology, liver biopsy, abdominal ultrasound, percutaneous alcohol injection (PEI), and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma patients.
