Dr. Yogesh Shouche, Scientist Emeritus at the National Centre for Cell Science (DBTNCCS) in Pune, was recently nominated as an opted member of the WFCC Executive Board. This honour was bestowed upon him given his extensive experience and expertise in this field. He heads the world’s largest individual microbial culture collection at the DBT-NCCS, called the National Centre for Microbial Resources (NCMR). He and his research group at DBT-NCCS have, among other things, been responsible for the discovery of several new microbes, which have resulted in around 50 research publications in the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology (IJSEM).

His research in microbiology spans around three decades and encompasses diverse areas, including microbial taxonomy, microbial ecology, and the human microbiome in health and disease. In recognition of his vast research expertise, he was also elected to the Executive Board of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP) that took charge in September 2020, where he is the only scientist from India.
