Y. (yijin) Ren DDS, MSc, PhD

Dr. Ren received her dental degree (DDS) from Wuhan University, China in 1996. She received her orthodontic training at Beijing University, China (1996-1999) with an MSc degree in 1999. In 2003 she obtained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. She was appointed as professor in 2007 and as chair of the Department of Orthodontics in 2008 at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. Her main research interests are the biological mechanism of tooth movement, biofilms in orthodontic materials, and three-dimensional imaging in orthodontics.

Dr Ren has received many awards such as a scholarship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (1999), Best five-year publication award from the Dutch Orthodontic Society (2003), Distinguished Scientist Award - Young Investigator Award from IADR (2006), Best Paper of the year from the Dutch Dental Journal (2007), Best poster award from the EOS (2008). In 2005 she received a prestigious research grant of €240,000 from the Dutch Scientific Organization. She received EOS research grants in 2004, 2007 and 2009. Dr. Ren is a Council member of the WFO. She has given more than 50 lectures worldwide and has 50 publications and 30 abstracts.
