Ximena Ramos Salas was trained as a nurse assistant in Sweden, and has been working in the health field for over 20 years. Since moving to Canada, she has completed a B.Sc. in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa and a M.Sc. in Health Promotion from the University of Alberta, School of Public Health. Her professional experience in Canada includes working in health care technology fields (March Networks, Ottawa, ON) and health research funding sector. Between 2002 and 2008, she held various positions at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), including with the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, the Institute of Gender and Health, and the CIHR Reducing Health Disparities (RHD) Initiative. Since 2008, she has been in the role of Managing Director of the Canadian Obesity Network. Ximena is working on her PhD in health promotion at University of Alberta, School of Public Health. Her research focuses on weight bias and stigma in public health policies and programs.
