Dr. Xianta Jiang received a Ph.D. in computer science from Simon Fraser University (2015) and Zhejiang University (Dual Degree), studying mental workload measurement using eye-tracking technology. He then took a post-doc fellowship at Engineering Science, Simon Fraser University, working in the area of human activity detection using machine learning and wearable sensors.

His research lies in applied machine learning in medical applications with a specific focus on human-centered wearable computing for healthcare. He is interested in a broad range of related research questions/problems, from specific medical application-oriented problems, such as improving prosthetic hand control interface, detecting Multiple Sclerosis disease using machine learning, and estimating Human Activity and Gait parameters, to improving common signal processing and machine learning methods for these applications, and further to solving data representation problems for machine learning. He also keeps exploring human vision tracking and evaluation using eye-tracking technologies for prosthetics and surgical simulation, as the vision system provides important sensing and expression channels that could be applied to various medical applications.
