Dr. Xavier Berard is a French vascular surgeon, consultant in the department of Vascular Surgery in Bordeaux University Hospital since 2010, and has been a full Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Bordeaux since 2016.
He obtained his medical degree at Bordeaux University in 1999 and then undertook his internship between 1999 and 2005 and my fellowship between 2005 and 2009 in the Vascular Surgery Department of Bordeaux University Hospital. In the following four years, he completed a Ph.D. thesis in vascular biomaterials and in 2010 worked as a research fellow at Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland.
He has been board certified by the French College of Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons since 2008 and from the European Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (FEBVS exam) since 2010.
He has been an examiner of the FEBVS exam since 2014, and a reviewer of the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery since 2016. He is also a member of the ESVS Guidelines writing group for vascular graft infection and AAA. He has participated in 76 publications indexed in PubMed.
He is currently working with Professor Eric Ducasse, head of our vascular surgery department and aortic center, on the management of complex endovascular procedures. His personal surgical interest is open surgery of (thoracic)abdominal aneurysms, redo aortic surgery, infections in vascular surgery, EVAR explantation, and biomaterials.
