Dr. Wing-Kin Syn specializes in the treatment of liver diseases, offering advanced care for patients with alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, chronic liver disease, hepatitis, alcoholic steatohepatitis, and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Services include noninvasive assessment of liver disease, liver biopsy, and liver elastography.
Dr. Syn is interested in clinical trials related to the treatment of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, as well as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Additional research interests include identifying risk factors for the progression of liver diseases related to Type 2 diabetes mellitus and methotrexate use, as well as the development of liver cancer.
At Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Syn is the division director and professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is associate editor for Digestive Disease Science and Honorary Professor (Physiology) at the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao.
