Dr. Wimvan den Brink is currently Professor of Psychiatry & Addiction, Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA) and Director of the Amsterdam Institute for Addiction Research (AIAR).

He has received medical degree from the VU University, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1981 and PhD degree cum laude from the University of Groningen.

The aim of Professor van den Brink’s research is to uncover the neurobiological processes involved in the development of addictive behaviours, and the effects of neurobiological interventions in preventing relapse in alcohol- and drug-dependent patients and pathological gamblers, using neuropsychological tests, neurophysiological procedures, and/or neuroimaging techniques.
