Wim Biesen MD, PhD

Wim Van Biesen is a teaching professor of nephrology and head of the Nephrology Department at the Ghent University Department. His research projects focus on enhancing the evidence-based approach of nephrology, with an emphasis on acute kidney injury and intensive care medicine. He holds an academic degree in biomedical engineering with a focus on artificial organs and artificial intelligence. As ex-chair of European Renal Best Practice, he still figures on the board and European guideline development committees. He is also responsible for the teaching of evidence-based medicine within the ManaMa. He has published over 450 A1 papers, resulting in an index of 47. He is the vice-chair of EuroPD. He is the cofounder of the Consortium on Justifiable Digital Healthcare in UZGent.
